Dr. Karl E. Waite joined the Retina Institute of Hawaii after completing his ophthalmology training in New York.
Born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, Dr. Waite graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He remained at the University, where he began research in the field of ophthalmology and vitreo-retinal disease and obtained his doctorate from the College of Medicine.
He began his surgical career with the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida, and continued his ophthalmology training with Nassau University Medical Center. At the State University of New York at Stonybrook, New York, he improved and restored vision to countless patients using delicate surgical techniques. Prior to joining the Retina Institute of Hawaii, Dr. Waite served as the Chief Resident of the Nassau University Medical Center.
Growing up boating and fishing with his family in Daytona Beach, Dr. Waite has an affinity for water sports and spends most weekends on the beach kite boarding or enjoying the surf.
